I really enjoyed the scenery in Perth. It has a peaceful, unique beauty with its clear blue skies and endless desert. During the trip, we had plenty of close contact with nature. We felt the cool waves on our feet, got sand blown into our clothes, and interacted with Australian animals like kangaroos, koalas, and snakes at the zoo. Sitting under a tree and watching seagulls fly by, I appreciated how the natural landscape here feels intact and full of pure life.

I had a very good time at the Perron Institute where I did experiments and communicated with supervisors and students. They were so happy to help so I learned a lot, for example gel electrophoresis and cell culture. I’ve done gel electrophoresis in China, but this is the first time that I finished every step of the whole experiment by myself and this was just so exciting! This program was so impressive that makes me eager to go back to the UWA in the future.

Microbial Marvels: Unveiling the Hidden Frenemies

I did the program with six other girls from Guangdong Medical University. We went from being total strangers to living together for almost a month. We cooked in the dorm, grilled steaks, spent weekends playing billiards, went for city walks, and watched fireworks together on the Australia Day. I also made friends from Soochow University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, which I feel incredibly grateful for!

During the past two weeks, we've had the amazing opportunity to dive into a new culture, learn about different academic and educational systems, and embrace new experiences. We also developed a strong appreciation for diversity. Through teamwork challenges, we learned the value of cooperation, communication, and problem-solving skills. The friendships and support from our peers and UWA teachers are important experience that will stay with us for life.
